Patrick Reed apologized for 'stupid error' in cursing, using gay slur
Patrick Reed was apologetic on Friday a day after a profane outburst was broadcast around the world.
"At the level I’m playing nowadays you can’t have outbursts and unfortunately I did and it happened to be on camera,” Reed said. "I made a stupid error. Never should have happened. All I can do is just learn from it and move on.”
Reed used several curse words and a gay slur in chastising himself after missing a par putt in the first round of the WGC-HSBC Champions event in China.
“Nice f***in’ three-putt you f***in’ fa**ot," Reed said Thursday.
The Augusta State product said wearing his heart on his sleeve led him to not biting his tongue.
"I love the game so much, and I expect perfection, but no one is ever going to be perfect in this game," he said. "It's just one of those things that I have to learn how to deal with. It got the best of me this week."
